'Firework' Lights Up 'Night of Too Many Stars'
October 19, 2012  | By Christy Slewinski

Comedy Central's Night of Too Many Stars doesn't premiere until Sunday, Oct. 21, but one segment of the show is already a hit on the internet. During the pre-taped, all-star benefit for autism viewers learn about young Jodi DiPiazza and the struggles she's faced via a videotaped piece narrated by her parents. Then the audience present for last Saturday's taping in New York's Beacon Theater saw a small girl in a glittery purple dress sitting at a piano singing "Firework," a song by one of her favorite singers, Katy Perry — accompanied by Katy Perry. The performance brought down the house, and reportedly moved host Jon Stewart to tears. Later that night, Perry tweeted: "I will never forget last night. It was the most important moment thus far of what I do." Night of Too Many Stars — which features appearances by Louis C.K., Stephen Colbert, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Seth Rogen, Tom Hanks, Jimmy Kimmel, Jerry Seinfeld and others — was founded several years ago by writer/comedian Robert Smigel, whose son, Daniel, is autistic. Comedy Central presents Night of Too Many Stars on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. ET. -CS
