Not So Fast

Norway’s public TV company, NRK, has the antidote for those burned out on the deluge of quick-cut images of modern television. It’s the new genre they call “Slow TV” – extended programming like a complete 7-hour train trip from Bergen to Oslo or, a 134-hour broadcast of a cruise ship voyaging up the Norwegian coast for more than five days. This month they aired 12 hours of knitting that also included a world-record attempt at making a sweater from scratch – from the shearing of the sheep. That drew 1.3 million viewers –– one-quarter of the nation's population. The knitting spree was featured on CNN’s Sunday show, GPS, with Fareed Zakaria. Seems that slow is very hot. – EG
