Sherman, Set the Wayback Machine for... Later Tonight, After the Peabody Awards

Right after I type this, I'm hitting the road to head north to New York and today's Peabody Awards presentation.

Later tonight, once I return home and have a moment to breathe and write, I'll provide coverage of what happened today at TV's most prestigious awards presentation -- as well as quotes from my recent conversation with Peabody Awards director and pioneering TV historian Horace Newcomb...

So Sherman, set your Wayback Machine to a Slightlyahead setting -- and return tonight for my visit with the man I call "Mr. Peabody." And, just maybe, with some of the folks who make the best TV in the country...

Meanwhile, please read TVWW contributor Noel Holston's wonderful inside history of the Peabody Awards, in his latest THE GRASSY NOEL column HERE.

And, if you like, my own take on this year's Peabody winners, which you can read HERE...

The “Sherman and Mr. Peabody” reference adds a nostalgic touch that makes the post more engaging, especially for readers familiar with classic TV culture. It’s interesting how media writing often blends personal voice with cultural references like this.

Even though this is a short preview-style post, it still builds anticipation effectively and encourages readers to follow up later for full coverage.

This is a fun and lighthearted pre-event post, and I like the playful tone with the “Wayback Machine” reference—it fits well with the anticipation around the Peabody Awards and gives it a more personal, conversational feel. It also works nicely as a teaser that invites readers to come back later for deeper coverage and interviews, which is a good way to keep engagement going.

I also appreciate how it points readers toward additional commentary and related writing, which helps create a broader context around the event rather than just a single report. The informal tone makes it feel more like a live blog or personal media journal than a formal news piece.

The Peabody Awards have always been TV's gold standard for meaningful storytelling — it's exciting to hear about the ceremony and the upcoming conversation with Horace Newcomb. His work preserving TV history is invaluable, and this kind of behind-the-scenes coverage is exactly what makes TVWW such a great resource for TV fans.

The Peabody Awards have always been TV's most meaningful recognition — celebrating substance over ratings. It's wonderful to hear there will be coverage of this year's ceremony and a conversation with Horace Newcomb. His work preserving TV history is invaluable, and the Peabody Awards reflect exactly the kind of thoughtful storytelling that deserves recognition.
