Crazy Ex-Girlfriend wrapped its series last Friday (April 5th) with a nice little meta-twist that rewarded followers of the irreverent musical comedy and fans of its occasionally stable character Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom). The series about Rebecca’s struggles and obsession over romantic love stayed true to its demanding brand of delivering, on the average, two musical numbers over 61 episodes that was often with great wit, upturning musical comedy conventions as it excavated its characters most embarrassing and unhappy corners. In an extended farewell, Bloom and cast members gathered for a recorded live special in Los Angeles immediately following, entitled
Yes, It’s Really Us Singing, to reprise some of the most popular numbers from the series. (
You can see it here on the CW website.) This one, “Let’s Generalize About Men,” taken here from Season 3, is a a good sample of Bloom’s ability to knock off a standard (“It’s Raining Men) and turn it into an anthem of bitterness.
