1998: CBS Airs the Series Finale of 'Cybill'
July 13, 2012  | By Christy Slewinski

This day in 1998 marked the series finale of the CBS comedy, Cybill, which starred Moonlighting's Cybill Shepherd as an aging, twice-divorced forty-something actress struggling with her professional and personal lives.

The show, which ran four seasons, starred Christine Baranski as Cybill's best friend, Maryann, Dedee Pfeiffer and Alicia Witt as her daughters, Rachel and Zoey, and Tom Wopat and Alen Rosenberg as her first and second ex-husband, respectively.

In her 2000 autobiography Cybill Disobedience: How I Survived Beauty Pageants, Elvis, Sex, Bruce Willis, Lies, Marriage, Motherhood, Hollywood and the Irrepressible Urge to Say What I Think, Shepherd wrote that the Cybill character was based on her own life and experiences.
