1997: Last Telecast of 'Lois & Clark' on ABC
June 14, 2012  | By Christy Slewinski  | 1 comment

This day in 1997 marked the final telecast of the light-hearted ABC drama, Lois & Clark — The New Adventures of Superman. The series starred Dean Cain as the Man of Steel and his alter ego, Clark Kent, and Desperate Housewives' Teri Hatcher as his career-obsessed colleague-turned-love, Lois Lane.

Unlike many comic-inspired shows, Lois & Clark put less emphasis on action-adventure and focused primarily on the relationship between the two main characters. That said, it was a rocky relationship, with lots of ups and downs.

Lane Smith co-starred as Daily Planet editor Perry White, photographer Jimmy Olsen was played by Michael Landes in the first season and Justin Whalin in the subsequent three seasons. John Shea portrayed Superman's nemesis (and Lois' Season 1 love interest) Lex Luthor.

The episode ende with a cliff-hanger because ABC had renewed the show for a fifth season, but then Warners pulled the plug because it thought it was about to begin production on a Superman movie wit Nicholas Cage.
