On this day in 1999, HBO presented what it thought would be a one-time, one-hour special, La
rry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm. The show, starring
Seinfeld co-creator Larry David as himself, was presented as a mocumentary that followed David's preparation for an upcoming HBO comedy special.
Clearly the network was happy with the show. Nearly a year later, on Oct. 15, 2000, the series
Curb Your Enthusiasm debuted, with Cheryl Hines co-starring as David's wife, Jeff Garlin as his manager, and Susie Essman as Jeff's wife. Guest stars often include celebrities playing (sometimes fictionalized versions of) themselves.
