The short-lived sitcom Day by Day premiered on NBC on this date in 1988. Created by the successful team of Gary David Goldberg and Andy Borowitz, Day by Day revolved around Brian and Kate Harper (Doug Sheehan and Linda Kelsey) and their son Ross (Christopher Daniel Barnes). Following the birth of their second child, some 15 years after their first, the Harpers decided to leave their high-powered, high stress careers to spend more time with their youngest by opening a daycare center in their home. The show marked the sitcom debut of Julia Louis-Dreyfus (two years before Seinfeld) as Eileen Swift, their single, childless neighbor who was also a former business colleague of Brian’s and wasn't exactly thrilled at the prospect of having a daycare center next door. The show was cancelled in its second season.
