1969: ABC Introduces 'The Johnny Cash Show'
This day in 1969 marked the debut of The Johnny Cash Show on ABC.
The musical series starred "The Man in Black" Johnny Cash, along with his wife, June Carter Cash, Mother Maybelle & The Carter Family, the Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins, the Bill Walker Orchestra and The Tennessee Three.
Taped at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, the series featured many of the day's most prominent and emerging folk and country stars, including Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Jerry Reed, Linda Ronstadt, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, The Monkees, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, Carl Perkins, Pat Boone, Kenny Rogers, Cass Elliott, Roy Orbison, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Arlo Guthrie, Glen Campbell, Dusty Springfield, Ray Charles, Charley Pride, Pete Seeger, and James Taylor.
