1968: The Clock Starts Ticking for CBS' '60 Minutes'

Today in 1968, CBS debuted the news magazine 60 Minutes, one of the most honored and successful programs in television history. Created by Don Hewitt, the groundbreaking news program's one-hour format gave its journalists an opportunity to present a more detailed look at current stories in news through investigative reports and newsmaker interviews. 

60 Minutes has had a long list of familiar hosts, correspondents and contributors, including Mike Wallace, Harry Reasoner, Ed Bradley, Dan Rather, Diane Sawyer, Meredith Vieira, Christiane Amanpour, Charles Kuralt, Walter Cronkite, Roger Mudd, Eric Sevareid, Bob Schieffer, Charles Osgood, Forrest Sawyer, Connie Chung, Paula Zahn, John Roberts, Charlie Rose, Bryant Gumbel, Katie Couric and Andy Rooney.
