The film — which tells the story of the origin of one of the most beloved children's book series of all time — co-starred Annette O'Toole and Rue McClanahan as Baum's wife and mother-in-law. Also co-starring (in his first credited acting role) was Jason Ritter, John Ritter's real-life son. (Ritter's first wife — Jason Ritter's mother — Nancy Morgan, also appears in the film.)
