1990: ABC Offers 'The Kennedys of Massachusetts'

On this day in 1990, ABC debuted the three-part miniseries, The Kennedys of Massachusetts, which revolved around the relationship between family patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr. and his wife, Rose Kennedy.
The Emmy-winning miniseries, based on the book The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys: An American Saga by Doris Kearns Goodwin, starred William Petersen and Annette O'Toole as Joe and Rose; Charles Durning as Rose's father, John F. Fitzgerald; Steven Weber as John F. Kennedy; Campbell Scott as Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr.; Randle Mell as Robert F. Kennedy; and Josef Sommer as Franklin D. Roosevelt.
