2006: CBS Introduces 'The New Adventures of Old Christine'

On this day in 2006, CBS introduced The New Adventures of Old Christine, the sitcom that broke the supposed "Seinfeld Curse."
The show starred Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a neurotic, obsessive single mom who's attempting to build a new, post-divorce life. The series co-starred Wanda Sykes, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd and Trevor Gagnon. The series ran five seasons.
Four years earlier, NBC had introduced the short-lived series, Watching Ellie, Louie-Dreyfus' first post-Seinfeld sitcom attempt. Its failure, followed the dismal performances of Michael Richards' The Michael Richards Show and Jason Alexander's Bob Patterson, solidified the belief that the Seinfeld co-stars couldn't make lightning strike twice — or, for that matter, even keep a show on the air.
Granted The New Adventures of Old Christine wasn't Seinfeld, but Louis-Dreyfus did walk away with a Best Actress Emmy for her role on the show, prompting Louis-Dreyfus to say, while accepting the award: "I'm not somebody who really believes in curses, but curse this, baby!"
