Television Sucks, Sing Broadway Stars
On Sunday, stars of The Book of Mormon, Wicked and Gypsy — Andrew Rannells, Megan Hilty and Laura Benanti — joined Tony Awards host Neil Patrick Harris in a number that points out the risk of leaving the the Great White Way for television: cancellation. Rannells of NBC's The New Normal, Megan Hilty of NBC's Smashed and Benanti, most recently of NBC's Go On and The Playboy Club, lamented their fate in the comical number: "Both my shows were cancelled, it's true. No joke — ha ha — not one show, but two," sang Benanti. " And so I raise a bottle to you, television ssssssucks." The star of CBS's How I Met Your Mother kindly counseled his cohorts: "Doing TV has its pros and cons. But just like the theater, sometimes you have a hit, and sometimes you don't. We can't all have long-running, hit TV shows like my own."
