The History of Television, Courtesy of Hand Puppets
February 24, 2014  | By David Bianculli  | 3 comments

This six-minute video isn’t a history of hand puppets on TV, though that would be fun, too. (Kukla! Lamb Chop! Wavy the Crocodile!) It’s a history of TV presented by hand puppets from the Glove and Boots puppet web series, who run through the decades with a mostly musical montage of theme songs, memorable images, and cheesy costumes – and new lyrics to classic old TV themes, like The Flintstones: “Gleason. Jackie Gleason. They ripped you off and made this show…” I may have to rethink the way I teach my "TV History" courses… – David Bianculli

Exploring television history through hand puppets showcases the medium's diverse evolution. From early experimentation to educational programming, puppets played a pivotal role. Their engaging presence not only entertained but also catalyzed creative storytelling, reflecting the dynamic evolution of television as a powerful communication tool throughout the decades.

This really was a fun video on the highlights of tv history! I'm even impressed how the puppets managed to make "Jersey Shore" mildly entertaining...
