They Could've Used a Bigger Show
How could we not say something here in our Video Worth Watching feature about the recent SNL40 anniversary show? That’s a lot of variety show tulips to tiptoe through in order to choose the best of the best but I think that, overall, they picked well. It wasn’t easy for me when I realized that the main character from one of my favorite bits/songs of my youth, “King Tut,” now wears glasses. But everything was made sublime when Nick Ocean (Bill Murray) came along in his crushed velvet tux to sing the “love theme” from Jaws (at approximately 12:15 in this uncensored version). With such note-shattering pathos and pain, Nick let us know of his heartbreak while a video of Bruce the shark, devouring the Orca, played in the background. There will never be another like Nick. – Linda Donovan
