RIVERDALE

This is episode two of Riverdale – a very strange rebooting of the characters and relationships from the Archie comics series. This series has had a free hand in presenting revisionist Riverdale history, making this show an odd cross between Twin Peaks and Dawson’s Creek. And tonight, we get to hear “Sugar, Sugar,” the sticky-sweet vintage pop hit recorded  in 1969 by a group named The Archies – a group that didn’t exist. Yet it became a Number One hit that year, and 48 years later, it’s performed on Riverdale – not by the Archies, who don’t yet exist here, but by Josie and the Pussycats, a vintage Archie Comics touchstone that, like everything else, is reshaped substantially here.
