BURDEN OF DREAMS
September 7, 2017  | By David Bianculli

TCM, 4:45 a.m. ET

This film isn’t by Werner Herzog – it’s about him. It’s a behind-the-scenes documentary, by Les Blank, of Herzog's efforts to film his 1982 epic Fitzcarraldo, in which Herzog’s problems in making the film proved no less daunting than the efforts of his film’s subject to drag a giant river boat across a rain forest mountain. When Herzog started Fitzcarraldo, the original stars were Jason Robards and Mick Jagger. This documentary shows footage of them at work – and much, much more.
