SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON
September 11, 2017  | By David Bianculli

TCM, 8:00 p.m. ET

This movie came out when I was 7 years old, and while I didn’t even fully grasp the Swiss part of the title, or wonder why the shipwrecked boys had names like Ernst and Fritz, this live-action Disney film about a family fighting off pirates on a remote island, and living in an absurdly ornate treehouse, was almost too much for my imagination to bear. If my own, non-Swiss family hadn’t just moved to Ft. Lauderdale, where just about the only trees were palms, I would have lobbied for a treehouse of my own for sure. All these years later, I can’t wait to see this movie again. And now I have lots of trees in my backyard mini-forest. And I have grandkids….
