THE VOICE

Last night’s opening Battle Round was a good one, ending with a duel that carried unexpected resonance beyond the performances themselves. The song selected by coach Adam Levine as a duet battle for his final two contestants of the night was “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” When these Battle Rounds were taped, Tom Petty, who recorded this hit song with Stevie Nicks and the Heartbreakers, was still alive and well. Hearing the song as an unintentional posthumous tribute was especially powerful – as was the rendition by Adam Pearce and Whitney Fenimore. He won, and she was saved by a “steal” from judge Miley Cyrus, so both singers will be around for the next phase.
