DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE: Part 1 of 2. There are conflicting accounts of the history of Rolling Stone magazine being generated, adding to an already high pile of written and oral histories. Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine, was published in October, a biography denounced by its formerly willing interview subject, Rolling Stone editor Wenner. But there also have been other books and accounts – and now, in this two-part documentary account, there’s another. This one is directed by Alex Gibney and Blair Foster, but its co-executive producers include Wenner himself – so don’t expect too much objective soul-searching or critical perspective. But for a while, inarguably, Rolling Stone was a key part of the post-Sixties counterculture and a major player in turning that counterculture into… the culture.
