TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
March 8, 2018  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

TCM, 9:45 p.m. ET

Here’s tonight’s other TCM classic about one man standing up against injustice. This time it’s a black man being tried for murder, with Gregory Peck playing Atticus Finch, the lawyer who is determined to give his client fair representation, even in a very small and largely bigoted town. Mary Badham plays Atticus’ daughter, Scout, and Robert Duvall, in this 1962 movie, has a small but meaningful role as Boo. Horton Foote wrote the screenplay adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic novel.

Minor point: Tom Robinson is actually accused of raping a white woman.
