TIMELESS
March 11, 2018  | By David Bianculli  | 1 comment

NBC, 10:00 p.m. ET

SEASON PREMIERE: This show wasn’t supposed to have a Season 2. It was canceled by NBC, then quickly reinstated – and after that smart reconsideration, returns tonight, with new time-travel episodes heading the team directly into the paths of Hedy Lamarr, Robert Johnson, Ronald Reagan and others.

I'm wondering what other viewers, especially those who were big fans of season one (like me), think of Season 2. I'm not loving it. I don't spoil but wish I could say more specifically what is troubling me this season. Carefully I will say that I think the show has gotten unnecessarily complicated (visions, WWI eugenics man, Rittenhouse/HER? et al.) and is focusing far too much on the less interesting aspects of the show.

The best parts have always been the team transporting back in time to various eras; Lincoln's assassination, the first serial killer in the U.S. (known serial killer that is), Las Vegas of the 1950s, and the Citizen Kane story in Hollywood with Hedy Lamarr. I did like much of the Wendell Scott, racecar episode.

I don't care for the term "sophomore slump" but I have a strong sense of this show's writing staff making up as they go along. I don't they really knew last year who Rittenhouse would be!
