This series, this season, has gotten noticeably darker, in both of the overall tone and in the amount of blood and violence included on screen. Two weeks in a row now, characters have grabbed heavy hammers and smashed the hand of other characters – and last week, Sofia Falcone (Crystal Reed) ended her reign of terror in Gotham by shooting her former lover, Jim Gordon, several times, before being shot herself by another of Gordon’s exes, Morena Baccarin’s Lee. Gordon survived; Sofia did not. Well, she shouldn’t have, because she was shot squarely in the head. But dialogue afterward, in true “never say die” comic-book form, insisted Sofia was in “a coma.”
