DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE: While the pace and approach of this new documentary is a bit leisurely, the subject certainly is worthy of interest. Remember the movie version of The Right Stuff, which told of the selection and training of the original Mercury 7 astronauts? Well, nowhere in that movie version of the Tom Wolfe book was it mentioned that at the same time those macho fighter pilots were being prepared for orbital missions, so were a number of veteran female pilots. Who were they? What was their experience? How were they selected and trained? And why were they never shot into space? Mercury 13 presents the answers to those questions, and begins with a reunion of the surviving women pilots themselves.
