Caesar and the Colonel sounds like a TV buddy show from the Seventies – but it’s actually the conflicted pair at the heart of this latest entry, from 2017, in the rebooted Planet of the Apes series. Caesar is the now-grown ape who’s set on revenge for what the humans have done to him and the rest of monkeykind – and the Colonel is the military guy who’s familiar with being both for and against him. Woody Harrelson returns as the Colonel, and Andy Serkis, the motion-capture pioneer now given well-deserved top billing, is the man behind Caesar the ape.
