Think of this 1972 Sydney Pollack movie, starring Robert Redford as a man who retreats into the rugged and unforgiving wilderness of the American West in the 19th century, fighting nature, the elements, and Native Americans in equal measure, as the original The Revenant. In its own wat, Jeremiah Johnson is just as poetic and captivating, and the cinematography as breathtaking. The film was shot on location throughout Utah, which is why Redford subsequently opted to establish both his home and his Sundance Film Festival in that beautiful state.
