SEASON PREMIERE: The first two episodes of Season 2 of Harlots are available now, offering a new series regular who joins Samantha Morton and company. It’s Liv Tyler (pictured), who plays a wealthy socialite who’s drawn into the world of the 18th-century London brothel trade. As Season 2 begins, it’s still a pitched battle between rival madams Margaret Wells (Morton) and her ruthless upscale counterpart, Lydia Quigley (Leslie Manville) – but almost instantly, Lydia is carted away to prison, creating a power vacuum that several players, new and old, rush to fill. Harlots is created, written and directed by women, so the dynamics, characterizations, and even the sex scenes are different, and more subtle and varied, than from what you might expect from a streaming series with this show’s title.
