This is sad, but not without a certain patina of comic irony. Tonight at 10 ET, WGN was supposed to premiere The Disappearance, the network’s importation of a new Canadian mystery miniseries about the investigation of a young boy’s disappearance in a small town. Led by Peter Coyote, Rectify star Aden Young and Man in the High Castle star Camille Sullivan, the cast was tantalizing – but a few days ago, The Disappearance disappeared from the WGN schedule. The network has replaced it in prime time with showings of the 2002 action movie XXX, and the reason for the Disappearance vanishing act is, for now, a mystery. So check local listings all you want: If they’re current, it won’t be there. And the really sad part is this: When I compiled possible Best Bet entries for today, The Disappearance was the only TV offering to stand out and make the cut. So now, basically, I’m encouraging you to take the night off, TV-wise. Either that, or do what many of my favorite TVWW readers do already, and post your own recommendations in the comments below. Have fun. But I warn you: For July 12, 2018, the pickings are anorexic.
