This is NBC’s best current comedy series, by a long shot, and one of the few broadcast TV series right now that competes in quality with the best cable and streaming shows. It returns with its Season 3 premiere Sept. 27, so it’s commendable that NBC, just before the new season begins, is devoting some of its prime time to promoting The Good Place, and repeating episodes from Season 2 so that new and recent converts can get up to speed. Showing four episodes tonight, from 8-10 p.m. ET, is a great move. But The Good Place is a show that reveals itself in a continuing narrative, with each episode built upon what’s happened before. So for NBC to show four episodes out of sequence – that’s the opposite of commendable. Tonight, NBC presents these Season 2 episodes, in this order: episode 2, episode 5, episode 6, and episode 10. The only conclusion is that NBC, for this clever series, is not The Good Place at all.
