SEASON PREMIERE: In real life, based on what’s been happening lately in the U.S., it might not seem to be such a great time for women’s rights, or female equality. But today, worldwide, there’s this: In the 55-year history of Great Britain’s Doctor Who series, which introduced its character of the body-shifting Doctor way back in 1963, today marks the first time that the role of the intermittently chameleonic Time Lord has been given to a female: In this case, Jodie Whittaker from Broadchurch, in an episode shown globally at the same time.
