SERIES PREMIERE: This limited series aims to tour New England and catch, with luck, the peak season of colorful fall foliage. Here’s one instance where, even as a TV critic, I much prefer the real thing. I’ll be making a similar voyage today, heading to upstate New York and following a route that, at one point, will take me to a mountain peak, then a drive down into a lushly colored forest valley. A friend once described it to me, quite accurately and unforgettably, as “like driving into a bowl of Froot Loops.”  Check local listings.
