SEASON PREMIERE: Greg Berlanti, who’s behind all of the current CW versions of such comic-book series as The Flash and Arrow and Supergirl, is also behind this new series – which, like his Riverdale, hails from the Archie Comics universe. For this new generation, Riverdale is part Twin Peaks, part Melrose Place. This new Sabrina – a darker take on ABC’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch from a generation ago – is a similarly schizoid hybrid: sometimes playful, other times trying to be scary. Kiernan Shipka, who was Don Draper’s daughter on Mad Men, has the title role.
