The dead zone of TV is almost over – I promise, things will get interesting, or at least fresh, next year. And by next year, I mean the very beginning of next year: Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. Meanwhile, there’s hardly anything for you, or me, to watch on television today. Unless, that is, you’re interested in watching television about television, and me on television. That’s because CNN, tonight and tomorrow night, is ringing out the Old Year by looking back at even older years – specifically, the most recent TV-focused episodes of their ongoing “Decades” series of documentaries. Tonight at 9 p.m. ET, for example, CNN repeats the two-hour installment called “The One About TV,” which kicked off CNN’s The Nineties. What else is part of that decade on television? Well, as I remember (and, as an on-camera interviewee, I remark), it’s a decade that began with ABC’s Twin Peaks, exploded at mid-decade with NBC’s ER and Friends, and ended up with NBC’s The West Wing and HBO’s The Sopranos.
