It’s Day 3 at Pebble Beach, where there are plenty of stories, and players to root for, after two days of play. The leader going into the weekend is Gary Woodland, a U.S. player atop the field with a two-day score of nine under par. Tiger Woods, who missed the weekend cut for the PGA Tournament after winning the Masters, is nine strokes back, at even par. And Brooks Koepka, who won this year’s PGA by a wide margin, is five strokes behind the lead with a score of four under par. If Koepka (pictured) ends up winning this tournament, it’ll be his third consecutive U.S. Open. And a three-peat at the Open is such a rarity, it’s only happened once before, when Willie Anderson accomplished it. Don’t remember seeing that on TV? It’s not your memory failing. Television wasn’t invented yet. Anderson’s three-year run of U.S. Open golf tournament victories began in 1903 – the same year the Wright brothers made their first engine-powered airplane flight at Kitty Hawk. Fox covers today’s action in a generous 10-hour chunk on broadcast TV, beginning at noon ET.
