I smell a hit. Like American Idol when it started, and like The Voice, it established itself immediately as a competition series that the entire family could watch. And like The Amazing Race, it has a premise that opens us up to other lands and cultures – but does it, in this case, without leaving the studio. Three celebrity judges provide the bulk of the voting, and a “wall” of judges representing different countries provides the rest, while host James Corden presides genially over it all. I really enjoyed the premiere, which was shown after the Super Bowl and repeated last night, offering glimpses of such unusual and entertaining talents as The Mongolian Cowboy.
