ARETHA: A GRAMMY CELEBRATION OF THE QUEEN OF SOUL
March 10, 2019  | By David Bianculli

CBS, 9:00 p.m. ET

SPECIAL PREMIERE: Jennifer Hudson (pictured) gets to give “Respect” to Aretha Franklin, as one of many artists singing songs from the Queen of Soul’s songbook, in this posthumous tribute recorded in January. Franklin earned her first Grammy Awards for “Respect” in 1968, for both Best Female R&B Performance and Best R&B Performance. She won again in the Female R&B category the following year for “Chain of Fools,” and continued to rack up Grammy wins in the 1970s and 1980s, and as recently as the 2000s. This special tribute is hosted by Tyler Perry, and features performances not only by Hudson and fellow American Idol veteran Fantasia, but by Patti LaBelle, H.E.R., Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae, Celine Dion, Common, John Legend, Brandi Carlile and others.
