O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU?
March 19, 2019  | By David Bianculli

AMC, 8:00 p.m. ET

This 2000 Coen Brothers comedy has one of the best music compilation soundtracks since American Graffiti, and one of George Clooney’s best movie performances ever. Based on Homer’s The Odyssey, and borrowing its title from a fictional screenplay in a Preston Sturges comedy, O Brother stars Clooney as a convict on the lam in the Depression-era Deep South, a chain-gang escapee connected, quite literally, to fellow fugitives played by John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson. All three are repeat offenders, stealing scenes in various movies in the Coen canon. Turturro co-starred in The Big Lebowski and played the title role in Barton Fink. Clooney also starred in the brothers’ Hail Caesar! and Intolerable Cruelty. And Nelson, most recently, sang and rode his way through the title role in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
