SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
May 4, 2019  | By David Bianculli

NBC, 11:29 p.m. ET

Before becoming a cast member of SNL in 1990 and breaking out big time with such scene-stealing bits as Opera Man and “The Chanukah Song,” one of Adam Sander’s only previous credits was as a recurring character on a handful of episodes of The Cosby Show. But SNL allowed Sandler to launch himself as a successful box-office movie star, thanks to the likes of Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer and The Waterboy. Sandler left Saturday Night Live in 1995, which means it’s been nearly 25 years since he regularly worked his comedy muscles at Studio 8-H – and tonight’s new episode marks the first time he’s returned as guest host. Musical guest: Shawn Mendes. Expect Sandler to bring some old comedy friends along for the ride. He always does.
