I apologize for not listing, in Best Bets, the previous game featuring the U.S. women’s soccer team at this year’s World Cup. What can I say? I dropped the ball – and I shouldn’t have been holding it in the first place, because I’m no goalie. In that first match, the U.S. squad beat Thailand like it was a scrimmage, winning by an absurdly dominant 13-0. Some say the Americans piled on; others say not to keep playing, and celebrating, would have insulted the other team on the world stage. Regardless, today at noon, in its second group stage game, the U.S. takes on Chile, which lost to Sweden 0-2 in its opening game – which was Chile’s first World Cup appearance ever. Watch in particular for USA’s Alex Morgan (pictured), who scored five goals in the game against Thailand. Amazing.
