Ventura at 20,000 Feet
October 31, 2013  | By Eric Gould

Here’s a Jim Carrey Ace Ventura reference to the 1963 Twilight Zone episode “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet,” written by Richard Matheson. (His 1975 ABC Trilogy of Terror was a TVWW Seal of Approval pick, here.) The TZ tale had William Shatner’s character flying home after being hospitalized for a nervous breakdown. Recovery, it seems, hadn’t gone too well, since he turns to find a surrealistic, Yeti-type character on the wing beginning to fool with the plane's equipment. You can see a clip of the episode here (it has the famous “terminal” introduction shot with Rod Serling). It’s Halloween, yet Carrey doesn't even need a costume for the impression to work. –EG
