The fourth movement, er, season of Mozart in the Jungle maintains the breezy charm that’s made it one of the most enjoyable binges in streaming land...

Of today’s all-day alternative coverage on cable networks, the biggest draw, arguably, is the gold medal final in men’s figure skating, televised live by NBCSN between 7 and 10:10 p.m. ET. That’s in addition to all other coverage on USA, CNBC, and on NBC’s own Olympics website. Oh, and on NBC the broadcast network as well. (Details follow.)

SEASON PREMIERE: It’s Season 4 for this comfortably slick and clever Amazon series, which stars Lola Kirke as Hailey, an oboe player who has worked her way into the ensemble of a major New York orchestra. Gael Garcia Bernal plays Rodrigo, the temperamental, talented conductor, and this season he and Hailey have escalated their relationship to the point where he proclaims himself as her “boyfriend.” But there are other elements at play, and other players, too. I especially like

The men’s gold medal final in figure skating, covered by NBCSN as well, makes it to tonight’s NBC prime-time coverage at 8 p.m. ET, because it’s scheduled to be performed in South Korea when NBC can present parts of it on live TV.  Also live in prime time, at least on the schedule: the Super G gold medal final in women’s alpine skiing.

This 1939 James Stewart classic is a film I always show to my Film History and Appreciation class. My college students at Rowan are amazed by how cynically it presents both politics and the press in a movie so old – and they’re also very moved by the eventual optimism of the film, which insists that one noble and well-intentioned person, no matter how outnumbered and outflanked, can indeed make a difference. After this particularly ghastly week, Frank Capra’s directorial drama

Unless Bill Maher adjusts his guest list tonight in reaction to Wednesday’s tragic mass school shooting in Florida, his guests tonight – who doubtlessly will be focusing intently on the issue of gun control – include Anna Deavere Smith, Fran Lebowitz, Salman Rushdie, and Vincente Fox, former president of Mexico. So given this week, and that last guest, immigration reform probably will be a hot topic as well...

There’s stuff going on all day on NBCSN and elsewhere – with all of it live on the NBC Olympics site – but today I’m going to be especially selfish and focused, and point out only the USA curling team coverage. From 2-5 p.m. ET on NBCSN, you can watch (as I will), the USA men’s curling team take the ice against Italy. From 5-8 p.m. ET on CNBC, you can see the USA women’s curling team take on their counterparts from Switzerland. And at 11 p.m. ET back on NBCSN,

NBC’s coverage starts in the afternoon from 3-5 p.m. ET, and includes late-night coverage from 1:05-2 a.m. ET tonight, but the prime-time coverage, starting at 8 p.m, ET and running until 12:30 a.m. ET, is the core of the network’s coverage. Scheduled live events during that time block include the men’s short program in figure skating, and the gold medal final runs in men’s skeleton.
