The recent Fox remake of the 1973 film vindicated itself nicely with its first season, complicating and adding to the story told by novelist and screenwriter William Peter Blatty and director William Friedkin in the original movie. But with Cinemax offering an unedited and uninterrupted showing, in prime time, of the original article, it’s too good an offer to ignore. Next year, The Exorcist will be 45 years old – but it’s still one of the scariest movies ever made. Ellen Burst

Tonight’s episode has Archie accompanying Cheryl on one of Riverdale’s big local events: the start of maple syrup season, when the locals go out into the woods to tap the trees. On any other teen soap, such a plot might be considered, uh, sappy…

This is the 25th anniversary of this gripping character study, written and directed by Neil Jordan. It shocked moviegoers back then, and if you don’t know the film’s central secret, it’ll be just as dramatic today – but its surprise will end up being a lot more topical, and less ahead of its time, than it was in 1992. Forest Whitaker plays Jody, a British soldier kidnapped and interrogated by IRA terrorists Fergus and Jude, played respectively by Stephen Rea and Miranda R

Insult comic king Don Rickles passed away today (April 6, 2017), and YouTube is full of riotous Rickles moments throughout his 50-year comedy career...  Rickles appeared on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show over 100 times, and this clip from 1976 veers from the usual fare of Rickles loose in the hen house...

Don Rickles has died, at age 90 – leaving behind a legacy of some hilarious TV clips from the 1960s and beyond. With Rickles, there are more personal elements as well: I remember fondly my Fresh Air interview with him in 2007, and Eric Gould, one of our TVWW editors, owes his very life to Don Rickles…

This series, over the years, has embraced parties in general and costume parties in particular. Tonight’s episode, “Frank’s Wedding,” guest stars Fred Willard, making a return appearance as Phil’s dad, Frank, who’s getting married – to Lorraine (Faith Prince), Phil’s former babysitter. And Phil, being a good son, persuades his clan to honor his dad’s wish for a fun costume-theme-party wedding, except that they’re the only ones who arriv

SEASON PREMIERE: At the end of Season 7, Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) didn’t look well. He was lying in a pool, fully clothed, bleeding to what looked like certain death. But Season 8 picks up a few months later, and Archer isn’t dead yet. Just comatose – and in his coma, he’s reimagined himself as a film noir gumshoe, with all the people he knows playing roles in his new imagined universe, fittingly called “Dreamland.” Think of it an a cartoon Singing Detective,

SERIES PREMIERE: In this bawdy new IFC series based on a Funny or Die short, Hank Azaria plays Jim Brockmire, a broadcast-booth baseball announcer trying to bounce back after a decade-old on-air flameout so famous, it’s still a YouTube hit 10 years later, as Brockmire returns to the United States after a decade overseas and without the Internet. Amanda Peet plays the owner of a small-town minor-league baseball team so desperate, it’s changed its team name to the Frackers as a step up
