SERIES PREMIERE: Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini star in this new Netflix series about women of very different temperaments who meet at a grief therapy session. What could be a predictable odd couple bonding comedy is anything but – and series creator Liz Feldman, showing off much more creativity and artistry than in her 2 Broke Girls CBS sitcom, keeps the surprises coming. The actresses are wonderful, the twists and turns excitingly unsettling. You’ll know by the end of the

MOVIE PREMIERE: In 1986, good-looking young actor Mark Harmon played serial killer Ted Bundy in The Deliberate Stranger, playing off his good looks to embody a much darker personality. A third of a century later, good-looking young actor Zac Efron takes his turn at the Bundy bat, playing the serial killer in a new movie that focuses as much on Bundy’s longtime girlfriend (played by Lily Collins).

SERIES PREMIERE: This new animated series isn’t strictly a spinoff of BoJack Horseman,  but it’s certainly from the same stable. Like that other likably oddball Netflix cartoon series, Tuca & Bertie is created by producer and artist Lisa Hanawalt, and deals with a group of talking, anxious animals. In this case, they’re female, and birds: a chirpy toucan and a more reserved song thrush.

The attorney general showed up at the Senate hearing on Wednesday, but skipped the House hearing yesterday. Today, to talk about that and more, Bill Maher is very likely to show up for his own scheduled live appearance tonight.

SEASON PREMIERE: This is the Season 5 premiere for iZombie, and the season begins with a departure from the show’s usual structure. In almost every episode to date since becoming an assistant murder investigator, the zombie Liv (Rose McIver) has gone about solving her cases by tasting the brains of the murder victim, absorbing his or her personality and memories, and proceeding with that helpful helping of “insider” knowledge. But for tonight’s season opener, though Liv i

Early in his film career, Alan J. Pakula produced such important movies as 1962’s To Kill a Mockingbird. Later in his film career, he wrote the screenplays for such important movies as 1982’s Sophie’s Choice. And in between those two decades and triumphs, he directed some of the best films of the 1970s – including a trio of brilliant explorations of paranoia. In 1971, Klute. In 1976, he directed All the President’s Men. And in the middle of that streak, in 1974

SERIES FINALE: This gripping, unsettling series ends tonight, providing the final chapter to this fact-based story of a young woman who enticed her boyfriend to kill her mother. Last week, the body had been discovered, and the young couple were being interviewed separately by investigators. Their stories were as different as they were unusual, and the same could be said of their unusual perspectives and actions. Like mailing the murder weapon to themselves, for example. Patricia Arquette stars a
