Let’s agree that among all the film and TV versions of Batman, Adam West’s was the silliest. It was also one of the most important – because West kept Batman alive at a time when the character could have faded into bat-obscurity...

SPECIAL: Kevin Spacey is this year’s Tony Awards host – and though that means we won’t see the high-energy musical antics of past hosts Neil Patrick Harris or James Corden, don’t sell Spacey short.  He can sing, he’s got excellent comic timing, and he’s a wicked impressionist – so in addition to what he’s done this century to bolster British theater, he belongs here as another potentially playful master of ceremonies.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are ahead in this series 3-2, and the Nashville Predators, in tonight’s Game 6, will either lose the Finals or force a winner-take-all Game 7.

SEASON PREMIERE: This is more an observation than a recommendation. ABC is going game show overboard, beginning with the Season 3 premiere of this game show reboot, which tonight pits friends and family of Kelly Clarkson against friends and family of Amy Schumer. After that one-hour game show, it’s the premiere of Steven Harvey’s Funderdome, followed by the Season 2 premiere of the reboot of The $100,000 Pyramid.

It’s now Episode 6 of this decades-later relaunch. Is it too soon to expect that the plot begins to move forward – or that Agent Cooper returns to his old self? As is, his new selves are either maddeningly passive or disturbingly misogynistic.

And we’re almost near the end of Season 1 of this series, and it, too, is still all prologue, with elements of the warring god “teams” yet to even choose sides, much less play ball. But last week, at least, there was the death of one god, Corbin Bernsen’s gun-loving Vulcan – but on this show, death, as we’ve seen already, isn’t necessarily the end of any character’s story.

Ben Affleck has the title role in this 2016 action thriller, playing a character who speaks softly and carries a heavy slide rule. This movie is notable, at least, for its unusual supporting cast, which includes Anna Kendrick, Jeffrey Tambor, John Lithgow, Jean Smart, and J.K. Simmons.

Here’s another example, like the new Showtime series I’m Dying Up Here (about L.A. standup comedy in the 1970s), of Hollywood fictionalizing a story that arguably would be much better if retold as it happened. Al Pacino plays the fictional title character, a long-time journeyman musician who discovers, 40 years later, that John Lennon had sent him a personal letter, with a home phone number and an offer to converse, that the lesser-known artist had never received. In real life, the m

In addition to creating the character of Tarzan the Ape Man, author Edgar Rice Burroughs also wrote a famous series of sci-fi novels starting with The Princess of Mars, written in 1912. More than a century later, Doctor Who plays with that idea, and even a vintage time period, with tonight’s episode, called “The Empress of Mars.” And not only does the titular heroine get a promotion, but the time period gets a reboot – because the Doctor and his companions not only revisi
