In last week’s season premiere, it looked as though Ray (Liev Schreiber) had found a way to escape the clutches of the newest ruthless powerful figure out to hire and control him. And then the painting arrived. Expect, this week, for him to get in more trouble, with Marisol, the manipulative beauty played by former Cosby Show kid Lisa Bonet (pictured). As for dis dad, Mickey (Jon Voight), the way he was rudely awakened by the female detective in last week’s climax, we can presume he,

Made in 1968, this is nothing short of a movie masterpiece – a great, thoughtful, expansive science fiction film that’s no less breathtaking as it approaches its golden anniversary. The prologue, with the humanoid apes and the monolith, is enough to secure this film’s place in history – but Kubrick, and 2001, are just getting started.

Twilight Zone marathons aren’t only for New Years, apparently. At 11:30 p.m. ET tonight, Syfy launches one for the July 4 holiday, so get set – for more than a day of classic, randomly ordered Zone episodes.

Made in 1971, this is the movie that made me want to be a critic – because it disturbed me so much when I first saw it, yet was so obviously excellent in every respect, that I kept going back to the movie theater to watch it again, focusing on different aspects each time. Based on Anthony Burgess’ dystopian futuristic novel, it’s one well-crafted set piece after another, with Malcolm McDowell’s thuggish delinquent an unlikely yet charismatic “hero.”

Way, way back in 1977, NBC took the three Godfather films and re-stitched them in chronological order, so the young Vito Corleone, played by Robert de Niro, eventually “matured” into the mob don played by Marlon Brando. It was called The Godfather Saga then, and was presented as a major miniseries “revamp” of the classic movies. Earlier this year, more footage was added and re-edited, the whole thing was remastered, and here it is: Starting at 5 p.m., a full-length &ldquo

This is a warning, not a recommendation. How can you tell it’s a super-slow holiday TV weekend? Here’s one sure indication: Tonight, CBS is dragging out and burning off two unseen episodes of its Angel from Hell series, which it cancelled almost immediately after premiering it in January. It stars Jane Lynch as an angel “helping” a young woman played by Maggie Lawson – and if you missed it in January, miss it again now.

Now here is a holiday weekend treat worth watching, especially if you can corral the whole family into sitting still for it. When I teach Film History at Rowan University, one of the great treats is to introduce many of my college students to the brilliant talents of so many wonderful film artists. Tune in to this 1974 compendium from the MGM studio, and you can do the same: Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, James Stewart… and on and on and on.

Hollywood and Vines: Has any superhero been the subject of more film and TV productions than the chest pounding, ape-trained, Jane-mating, loin-clothed, jungle-ruling he-man of few words? Surely not. And here come two more...
