Tonight’s TCM schedule is a salute to the swinging Sixties, and begins with two very appropriately upbeat character comedies. In the first, shown at 8 p.m. ET, Peter Sellers stars in 1968’s I Love You, Alice B. Toklas, playing an uptight businessman who loosens up after sampling sex, drugs and rock & roll. Then, at 10 p.m. ET, it’s Lynn Redgrave in 1966’s Georgy Girl, playing a sort of Bridget Jones type who effortlessly personifies the decade she’s in. But stay

It was 350 years ago, on June 24, 1664, that New Jersey, long before it became a state, became named and acknowledged as a territory. That deserves a celebration – and it’s getting one…

All other shows, thanks for coming out. There’s nothing else on TV like Louie. The FX series wrapped up for a fourth season Monday night with two more brilliant episodes, concluding a trilogy featuring co-writer and producer Pamela Adlon...You always knew this season wound not be like the others...

Well, I got a late start today, so as I type this, Italy just fell to Costa Rica in Group D – which means, among other things, that England fails to advance this year. But there’s another game televised on ESPN today featuring teams that won their first games, starting at 3 p.m. ET, featuring Switzerland and France from Group E. Then, at 6 p.m. ET, the other two teams from Group E play one another. They’re the losers of their first games: Ecuador and Honduras, and anything but

This 1988 comedy is one of the sparkling movies from Eddie Murphy’s early years, when he burst onto the big screen after commanding attention on Saturday Night Live. It’s followed on Spike by an even earlier triumph, 1982’s even better Trading Places comedy. If there had been room made for 1983’s 48 Hrs., you’d pretty much have the best of Eddie Murphy on film – then, and now.

Prime time tonight on TCM is devoted to Errol Flynn, and there are two swashbuckling entries from very different eras. Leading off is 1952’s Against All Flags, a later-career effort in which Flynn pokes fun at himself, and pirate movies in general, with help from co-star Maureen O’Hara. That’s followed, at 9:30 p.m. ET, by 1935’s Captain Blood, a sparkling film that exemplifies the swashbuckling movie genre.

Just in case you missed it the first time: Monday’s episode of 24 is repeated, complete with its ending image that qualifies as one of the most explosive cliffhangers in the history of the series.

There are no A-list names on tonight’s guest list – unless your personal A-list is wonky enough to include the likes of Ta-Nehisi Coates and Glenn Greenwald. But sometimes, these are the very lineups that lead to the most interesting discussions.

When the terms “literary” or “novel-like” are used for a television series, that usually means it’s a drama where nothing explodes and no one is shot.. Sundance Channel's Rectify returns for a second season of Southern small-town drama...

Of the three games to be played today, all televised by ESPN and prefaced by 30-minute pre-game shows, the most pivotal is the one beginning at 3 p.m. ET, when England faces Uruguay. Both of these Group D teams dropped their initial games, and only the winner of this game has a realistic chance to advance past the group stage. Also played today, at 6 p.m. ET, is another game with similar stakes, this time from Group C: Japan vs. Greece, who lost their first games as well. But starting the day, a
