For the second time this season, Frosty tries to melt your heart, among other things, in this 1969 holiday special. In a few weeks, this special will be 50 years old, which just goes to prove: there's no business like snow business.

[Editor's note: Edward R. Murrow's 1960 CBS documentary, Harvest of Shame, is a staple of my TV History & Appreciation class at Rowan University. This term, it spurred an inspirational reaction from two of my students, in a blog posted here on TVWW. Amazingly, the same class has generated another unexpected bounty: a reaction from Edgar Aquino-Huerta, who lives an amazing double life: farm worker by day, media student by night. His very personal account follows. -DB]

MOVIE PREMIERE: Rohan Chand stars as Mowgli in this new version of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, which, like Disney’s 2016 version, mixes live-action and motion-capture computer effects to bring Kipling’s story to life. Because Kipling’s story is old enough to be in the public domain, there was nothing to prevent two productions from moving forward at once – so they did. Disney won, and this Netflix version, shown briefly in a few theaters last month before str

This 1967 Mike Nichols movie, showcasing young Dustin Hoffman in the role that made him a star, remains one of my favorite films. It’s also what I call a “spider-web film,” which means it ensnares me every time it’s on TV. And each time, I hone in on a different element: Buck Henry’s hotel clerk, Richard Dreyfuss’ one-scene appearance at the dorms, or Anne Bancroft’s predatory wardrobe as the on-the-prowl Mrs. Robinson (pictured). I recently returned fro

MIDSEASON FINALE: In tonight’s new episode, Rebecca (Rachel Bloom) finally reunites with Greg, and he’s a new man. Or, at least, played by one. The character used to be portrayed by Santino Fontana, but, beginning tonight, is played by Skylar Astin from Pitch Perfect. And unlike the switch of the two Darrins on Bewitched in the 1960s, this time the swap is noticed. Sort of.

Thanks to the miracle of time travel – well, okay, the relatively less magical miracle of a newly discovered VHS tape – tonight’s new episode features Sheldon encountering his youthful alter ego. In other words, Old Sheldon meets Young Sheldon… but since the elder Sheldon is only watching on videotape, there’s no time paradox to worry about. And that’s just the sort of thing that would concern Sheldon greatly, at any age.

This is a secular recommendation, though it won’t sound like one. Gather the family, especially the kids, around the TV set tonight at 8 ET on ABC, for an inspirational recitation of Luke, Chapter 2, verses 1 through 14. Those are the passages recited from memory by Linus, who takes the time, in this 1965 animated holiday classic, to explain the true meaning of Christmas. It’s the first Peanuts TV special, and still the best, and Charles M. Schulz’s story is still one of the mo
