On this day in 1965, CBS introduced the variety show Hollywood Talent Scouts, a program hosted by Art Linkletter on CBS. On it, Hollywood celebrities brought unknown talent into the studio to make their television debut.A few future stars actually did make debuts during the show's run. On March 7, 1966, Tom and Dick Smothers introduced a comic by the name of Pat Paulsen. Paulsen later became a star in 1967 as a regular on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Other future stars to appear on the s

Using JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon’s confident appearances before Congress as a jumping-off point, Bill Moyers probes, once again, the reckless behavior of big banks and Wall Street, and the lack of reforms and responsibility. And this week’s guests include one of the financial industry’s most plainly and aggressively outspoken critics: Rolling Stone reporter-editor and author Matt Taibbi (shown here in an earlier appearance). Moyers & Company is shown by local public TV

This 2004 American Masters profile uses old TV and film footage and vintage recordings – of interviews as well as vocal performances – to allow the famous movie and recording star to tell her own story, largely in her own words. The excuse for this repeat is that today, June 22, is the anniversary of her death, at age 47 in 1969. But no excuse is necessary. It’s worth watching, and hearing, regardless. In tonight’s show, Karl Pilkington steps into Sir David Attenborough territory, and tries to tell a story about a fascinating event he witnessed, or claims he did, in the natural world: a wasp, stinging a cricket, and why.

I was really hoping Aaron Sorkin would be a guest this week, to promote HBO’s The Newsroom and talk to Maher about broadcast news. But I can’t complain, because tonight’s scheduled lineup includes not only Rachel Maddow and my old New York Daily News boss Mort Zuckerman, but Kirk Douglas -- who is Spartacus!

Going mad from Mad Men withdrawal? Here’s a temporary fix: Tonight’s guest is Jon Hamm, who shows up as himself, only to encounter some unexpected indignities.

Tonight is Game 5, with the Miami Heat holding a 3-1 edge over the Oklahoma City Thunder. That’s significant, historically, because no team has ever come back from a 3-1 deficit to win in the NBA Finals. There’s always a first time, but the odds are much greater that LeBron James, who was sidelined briefly at the end of Game 4 but played despite the pain, will get the championship he’s wanted for so long. If not tonight, then soon enough…

Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) remains in prison, and in an orange jump suit, as Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) works to spring her – or, at least, see her, which proves tricky enough. But with help from a former mentor, played by guest star John C. McGinley from Scrubs, he’s got a fighting chance.

This summer roast rerun hails from 2005, and features Jimmy Kimmel as roastmaster. Among the members of the dais taking aim at Anderson , and each other, include Courtney Love, Tommy Lee, Sarah Silverman, Andy Dick, Greg Giraldo, Lisa Lampanelli  and, perhaps most improbably of all, Bea Arthur. There are all other celebrities… and then there’s Maude.

Tonight’s program includes a profile of Aaron Sorkin, the talented, prolific movie and TV writer whose latest project is The Newsroom, which premieres Sunday on HBO. And part of the interview is conducted in Sorkin’s patented “walk-and-talk” style, with poor Savannah Guthrie left behind in the proverbial dust.
