SERIES PREMIERE: The first incarnation of this series ran on CBS from 1978-91, made Larry Hagman an international TV icon as J.R. Ewing, and defined America abroad as much as anyone or anything else during the Reagan era. And Hagman, alone, makes it worth the second visit. For reviews and reactions, please read veteran Dallas TV cri

I just rewatched this Brian de Palma mystery recently – and while it’s almost operatically overdone in parts, it’s also impressively, audaciously stylized, with one or two long cinematic set pieces that make this 1980 murder mystery worth a revisit. Angie Dickinson and Michael Caine star, along with relative youngsters Keith Gordon and Nancy Allen. Standout star? Game 1 of this year’s championship series has LeBron James and his highly paid, highly touted Miami Heat teammates, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, determined to secure championship rings at last. But standing in their way – and jumping, and blocking, and shooting – is the Oklahoma City Thunder, which enjoys home-court advantage for this opening game.

MINISERIES PREMIERE: Actually, it’s debatable whether this new crime drama, starring David Morrissey as a British detective, should be considered a series, a miniseries, or a series of made-for-TV movies. In the U.K., the Thorne stories ran at a longer, more detailed length, though both the plot and characterizations hold up well here. And there are familiar faces, too, including Natascha McElhone from Californication and, in tomorrow’s episode, Sandra Oh from Grey’s Anatomy. F

On this day in 1963, TV showman Perry Como's The Perry Como Show ceased its weekly airings on NBC and became a series of monthly shows, alternating with Kraft Suspense Theatre, The Andy Williams Show and The Road West. The weekly Como show continued on for the next four seasons.Perry Como was one of television's earliest stars. The barber-turned-singer already had numerous hit records to his credit when, in 1948, NBC decided to bring cameras into the radio studio and simulcast Como's radio s
